Spiti Valley is a cold desert mountain valley located high in the Himalayas in the north-eastern part of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The name “Spiti” means “The Middle Land”, i.e. the land between Tibet and India. Local population follows Buddhism similar to that found in the nearby Tibet and Ladakh regions.T he sub-divisional headquarters (capital) is Kaza, which is situated along the Spiti River at an elevation of about 12,500 feet (3,800 m) above mean sea level. Spiti valley is a research and cultural centre for Buddhists. Highlights include Key Monastery, Dhankar Monastery and Tabo, one of the oldest monasteries in the world and a favorite of the Dalai Lama. Spiti valley is accessible throughout year via Kinnaur from Shimla route on a difficult 412-kilometre-long (256 mi) road. Tourists from outside India need inner line permits to enter Spiti through Kinnaur. In summer it can be reached via Manali through Rohtang pass and Kunzum pass.

Day wise Itinerary:-
Day 01: Manali Arrival – Rest + Acclimatization
You will arrive early morning at Manali you can use the day to simply rest and acclimatize for the coming days or you can indulge in sightseeing around Manali on your own. Local transport is available for sightseeing. You can also shop in Manali market for your Spiti Valley Road trip
Day 02: Manali – Kaza (220 kms)
We begin early morning today from Manali before sunrise, it will be challenging drive till Kaza as high altitude of Spiti Valley provides different challenges. Drive through rohtang pass, Batal, Kunzum Pass and Losar to Reach Kaza. Dinner and Overnight stay at Kaza.
Day 03: Kaza – Pin Valley – Tabo
Today we will drive to Pin Valley and Tabo Village. Pin Valley is famous for its wildlife which includes critically endangered snow leopards, ibex, Himalayan bear and wolf. We’ll spend some time in Kungri monastery and try to spot some wildlife. Then we’ll drive to Tabo to visit Tabo Monastery which is more than 1000 years old and is considered one of the holiest Buddhist sites in the world. There are several caves nearby which are used by Buddhist monks for meditation in solitude. Dinner and Overnight stay at Tabo.
Day 04: Tabo – Dhankar – Kaza
Next morning, we’ll drive to Dhankar and visit Gompa which is situated high above the valley. It used to be a fort and residence of king of Spiti. The view from this point is mind blowing. We’ll also visit Lalung Gompa. We’ll reach Kaza by evening. Dinner and Overnight stay at Kaza.
Day 05: Kaza – Langza – Hikkim – Komic – Key Monastery – Kibber – Kaza
Today after breakfast we will be driven to the village of Lagnza. Here there is an opportunity to walk around the village with your guide. You may wish to visit the monastery at the top of the village and on the way look out for fossils. Here you can also see the yak working in the fields or yak grazing in the pastures. We will continue our drive to Hikkim- visit the Higgest Post office in the World and you can also post the post card back to home from here. We will also visit the Komic village, which is now the world’s highest village (4,450 metres) joined to a motorable road. Post Lunch visit Key monastery – the biggest monasteries of Spiti and presents the beautiful views of the Rangrik Plains and the villages and the Spiti river and valley below. Later we continue our drive to Kibber village (at 4,200 metres / 13,780 feet). There is also the option to walk to the nearby mountains where there are big herds of Himalayan blue sheep and snow ibex gather in the evening. Overnight stay in Kaza.
Day 06: Kaza – Chandartal(105 kms)
Today early morning we will drive you to Chanderatal Lake over Kunzum pass. We will stop for break at Losar. If the road is open to the Lake we will drive you near the Lake and you will have to walk the last 1 kms on foot to visit the beautiful Chanderatal lake. Overnight stay near the lake in basic tented accommodation or in temporary accommodation at Batal. We will arrive Chanderatal lake by late afternoon and rest of the time is to enjoy the scenic views of The Chanderatal Lake with the Himalayan backdrops. Dinner and Overnight stay at camps.
Day 07: Chandartal – Manali(120 kms)
Next morning, we’ll drive back to Manali from Kaza along the same route we came passing Rohtang Pass. You have the choice of either staying overnight in Manali or drive homewards from there. This ends this 7 days vacation in Manali and Spiti.
